University of Zurich, Switzerland.

The University of Zurich (UZH) is one of the largest public Universities in Switzerland. The University provides academic services, works with the private sector and considers itself part of a national and global network for the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge. Zurich’s international reputation is based on research, particularly in molecular biology, brain research and anthropology, and on the work of the University Hospital and Veterinary Hospital (text derived from the Institution’s Website, www.uzh.ch).

Important interactions exist between the UZH and the Technical University ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) in Zurich. The ETH not only offers schools of engineering and science, but also – relevant to the proposed Master in Advanced Rehabilitation Sciences – sports physiology. Links between the UZH and the Zurich Art School (ZHdK, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste) in the field of rehabilitation science integrate elements of interaction design and ergonomics into rehabilitation technologies developed in conjunction with the ETH that are then used in the clinical and medical departments that focus on rehabilitation, namely the Balgrist Rehabilitation Hospital for Spinal Cord Injury and the Stroke Division of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Zurich. This Zurich Rehabilitation Network has its formal representation in the RITZ, the Rehabilitation Initiative and Technology Center Zurich (www.neurorehab.uzh.ch), which is a part of the Zurich Neuroscience Center (http://www.neuroscience.ethz.ch).
